Resonant Raman scattering in antiferromagnets

چکیده
Two-magnon Raman scattering provides important information about electronic correlations in the insulating parent compounds of high-Tc materials. Recent experiments have shown a strong dependence of the Raman signal in B1g geometry on the frequency of the incoming photon. We present an analytical and numerical study of the Raman intensity in the resonant regime. It has been previously argued by Chubukov and Frenkel that the most relevant contribution to the Raman vertex at resonance is given by the triple resonance diagram. We derive an expression for the Raman intensity in which we simultaneously include the enhancement due to the triple resonance and a final-state interaction. We compute the two-magnon peak height ~TMPH! as a function of incident frequency and find two maxima at v res '2D13J and v res '2D18J . We argue that the high-frequency maximum is cut only by a quasiparticle damping, while the low-frequency maximum has a finite amplitude even in the absence of damping. We also obtain an evolution of the Raman profile from an asymmetric form around v res (1) to a symmetric form around v res (2) . We further show that the TMPH depends on the fermionic quasiparticle damping, the next-nearest-neighbor hopping term t8, and the corrections to the interaction vertex between light and the fermionic current. We discuss our results in the context of recent experiments by Blumberg et al. on Sr2CuO2Cl2 and YBa2Cu3O6.1 and Rübhausen et al. on PrBa2Cu3O7 and show that the triple resonance theory yields a qualitative and to some extent also quantitative understanding of the experimental data. @S0163-1829~97!07837-5#

Resonant Raman Response in Doped Antiferromagnets
The resonant part of the B1g electronic Raman scattering response is calculated within the t−J model on a planar lattice as a function of temperature and hole doping, using a finite-temperature diagonalization method for small systems. Results, directly applicable to experiments on cuprates, reveal on doping a very pronounced increase of the width of the two-magnon Raman peak, accompanied by a ...

متن کاملTheory of Raman scattering in one-dimensional quantum spin-1/2 antiferromagnets.
We study theoretically the Raman-scattering spectra in the one-dimensional (1D) quantum spin-1/2 antiferromagnets. The analysis reveals that their low-energy dynamics is exquisitely sensitive to various perturbations to the Heisenberg chain with nearest-neighbor exchange interactions, such as magnetic anisotropy, longer-range exchange interactions, and bond dimerization. These weak interactions...
متن کاملResonant two-magnon Raman scattering in cuprate antiferromagnetic insulators.
We present results of low-temperature two-magnon resonance Raman excitation profile measurements for single-layer Sr2CuO2Cl2 and bilayer YBa2Cu3O61d antiferromagnets over the excitation region from 1.65 to 3.05 eV. These data reveal composite structure of the two-magnon line shape and strong nonmonotic dependence of the scattering intensity on excitation energy. We analyze these data using the ...
متن کاملA Comparison between Resonant Raman Scattering in Type II GaAs/AlAs Superlattices and Single GaAs Quantum Wells
We present a comparison between resonant Raman scattering experiments on a type II GaAs/ AlAs superlattice of short period and a single GaAs quantum well. Under resonant excitation, a continuous emission is observed in the low-frequency range of the two heterostructure Raman spectra. This scattering is analyzed in terms of breakdown of the wavevector conservation law due to single quantum-well ...
